Rollins takes to the road for the first time this season,
resuming Sunshine State Conference play with a trip to St.
Petersburg to take on the Eckerd College Tritons
ROLLINS AT A GLANCE: Rollins finished their
68th Annual Baseball Week with a record of 4-1. The
Tars defeated Saint Anselm twice, and Concordia twice before
falling to Assumption in their final game. Rollins currently sits
at 13-7 overall, and 1-2 in the SSC.
Rollins continues to lead the SSC with a .376 team batting
average. Grant
Ashline leads the Tars, and the conference, with a .516
average. The sophomore has nine double, a homerun, and is slugging
.710 on the season. Second baseman Nick
Breen continues to lead the SSC in doubles, gathering 12 so far
this year. On the mound Mike
Gaughan has had a stellar year for Rollins. The lefty from
Walpole, Massachusetts has amassed a 1-1 record with a 2.86
ERA.
Jon
Sjogren, Ed.D. enters his 11th season at the helm of the Tars'
baseball program in 2016 and brings with him a career record of
629-556-5 over 25 years into this season.
Sjogren was
hired in July 2005 and became just the fifth head coach in the
Tars' illustrious history. Through ten seasons with Rollins, he
has compiled a record of 270-251-3.
ECKERD AT A GLANCE: The Tritons come into their
series with the Tars on the back of a 3-1 win over Cedarville
University. Eckerd currently sits at 7-7 overall, and 1-5 in SSC
play. The Tritons took one game, of a three game series, from
Barry, but suffered a sweep at the hands of Nova Southeastern.
The Tritons are lead by Rowdy Andrews who is batting .340 on the
season with two homeruns and 15 RBI. As a team Eckerd is hitting
.294. Triton pitchers have registered a 5.28 ERA this season,
striking out 102 batters.
The Tritons are lead by Juan Ranero, who is entering his second
season in charge of the Eckerd program. His first season at Eckerd
saw the Tritons win 20 games while Ranero reached a milestone with
his 500th career win.
LAST MEETING: Last season Rollins was swept by
Eckerd to open SSC play. The series finale was a 14 inning
marathon, which the Tritons won 5-4.
