ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (March 11, 2016) - Rollins came out victorious in their first road contest of the year, defeating the Eckerd College Tritons 6-1 on Friday night. The win boosts the Tars overall record to 14-7, while Rollins sits at .500, 2-2, in Sunshine State Conference action. Eckerd falls to 7-8 with the loss, and are 1-6 in the SSC.

The Tars were lead by a strong pitching performance from sophomore Brian Auerbach. The Palm Harbor, Florida native went eight strong innings, giving up just one run on five hits, while striking out five. Matt Hendricks closed out the game, striking out the side in a perfect ninth inning.

At the plate Tyler Fairbanks paced the Tars. The sophomore went 1-5 on the night, driving in two runs, and scoring another. Mike Purcell finished the evening 1-4, with two RBI of his own.

Eckerd's offense was lead by Nick Hill. The senior tallied the Triton's lone run on his first homerun of the year. Jack Silberman started for Eckerd, recording the loss. The Deerfield, Illinois native threw 2.1 innings, surrendering five runs, four earned, on five hits, striking out three.

The Tars jumped into the lead with five runs in the top half of the third inning. Peter Nicoletto led off the inning with a double, and eventually scored on a Nick Breen double. Mike Dolan and Breen came home after a Fairbanks double. Fairbanks and Mike Purcell crossed the plate courtesy of a Purcell double to left center field. The Tritons pulled a run back in the bottom of the frame, making the score 5-1 after four innings.

Rollins sent the final run home in the top of the sixth. Isaiah Russell singled home catcher Christopher Corbett. The Tars shut down Eckerd for the rest of the game to clinch the victory.

Rollins and Eckerd conclude their three game series with a double header on Saturday, March 12. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
