TAMPA, Fla. (February 7, 2016) - Sixth-ranked
Rollins rattled off two goals in under a minute of opening game
play to open up to a quick 2-0 lead and never looked back as they
took down the University of Tampa by a final score of 13-6 on
Sunday afternoon at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural
Complex. The win opens the Tars 2016 season with a record of 1-0,
and 1-0 in Sunshine State Conference action, while the Spartans
begin their campaign with a mark of 0-1 and 0-1 in the SSC.
Tyler
Thomas led the way for the Tars with six goals on the
afternoon, while Kris
Coppolino tallied two goals and two assists for four points on
the day. Kallie
German and Claire
Block each netted two goals, while Paige
Brock scored one. German, Grayson
McPhee, and Kaitlin
Prince each dished out an assist as the Tars notched 18 total
points on the day.
Tampa was led in scoring by Amanda Voges with a hat trick, while
Amanda Rom, Rachel Crawford, and Paige Johnson contributed one goal
apiece. Shannon Sweeney led the Spartans in assists with two,
while Emilie Barbosa and Rachel Crawford each contributed one.
Malorie
Olin saw a full 60 minutes between the pipes, earning 14 saves
while facing 26 shots and 20 shots on goal. Her counterpart on the
opposite end of the field, Caili Guilday, earned 10 saves on the
day while seeing 33 shots and 23 shots on target.
Brenna
Heaney led the Tars in ground balls, amassing four on the
afternoon, while Kallie
German and Coppolino caused a team best two turnovers
apiece.
Rollins did not waste any time putting points on the scoreboard
as Thomas grabbed a feed from Coppolino just 26 seconds into the
game. Coppolino dished out an assist for a goal by Brock just 29
seconds later to give Rollins a 2-0 lead less than a minute into
the game.
The Tars never relinquished their lead, holding onto a 7-1 lead
at the half, and closing out the game with a seven goal
advantage.
Rollins returns to action for an exhibition game against the
Welsh National Team on Tuesday, February 16. Game time is set for
