LAS VEGAS, Nev. (December 19, 2016) - Playing a second nationally-ranked opponent in as many days, Rollins was slow to start and fell to 19th-ranked West Texas A&M 89-68 to close play at the D2 Holiday Classic in Las Vegas.

Sam Philpott led the way for the Tars (7-5) with 17 points and five assists. Connor Mckim was 8-for-8 from the free throw line and added 12 points while Jeff Merton recorded 10 points and five rebounds.

West Texas A&M (14-1) had five players in double-figures, led by 20 points from David Chavlovich, who was 6-of-11 from the three-point line and also handed out 11 assists. Joseph Prince scored all 18 of his points in the first half while Drew Evans and Eric Golightly Jr. each netted 11.

Rollins shot and made twice as many free throws as A&M and forced five more turnovers than they committed, but the Tars were beat on the glass 36-19, including 13-2 in offensive rebounding, proving to be a big difference maker.

HIGHLIGHTS AND HALF-BY-HALF ANALYSIS
First Half l The Buffs drained four three-pointers on their first four possessions and Golightly hit a jumper on the fifth as Rollins quickly fell into a 14-3 hole after just three minutes. The Tars were down 20-5 at the 14:50 mark before a Joey Galvis three-pointer and two Mckim free throws cut the deficit to 10. A&M then started to heat up again from the field and put the Tars down by as many as 23 late in the frame. Rollins went into halftime trailing 53-34.

Second Half l Sam Philpott scored the Tars first five points of the second half as Rollins got to within 55-39 with 18:52 left in regulation. Back-to-back three-pointers by Tommy Gove put the momentum back on the Buffs side as they pushed their advantage to as many as 83-54 with 6:29 left. Rollins would then get no closer than 21 the rest of the way.
