MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (January 2, 2016) - Looking to snap a three-game losing skid after opening 9-0, the Tars traveled to Barry on Saturday. Rollins led into the second half but the Buccaneers caught fire from deep late, securing the 98-85 win.

With the loss, the Tars fall to 9-4 overall and 2-2 in the SSC while Barry improve to 9-2, 3-1 in conference play.

The Tars finished 33-71 from the field (46.5%) and outrebounded the Bucs, 38-35, but the difference proved to be Barry's three point shooting, as they went 22-42 from beyond the arc.

Sam Philpott led Rollins with 18 points in the losing effort while Deion Clark and Jeff Merton both finished with 16. Merton also grabbed a team high nine rebounds with Sharif Almulla adding 14. James Ferrell finished with four assists.

For Barry, Yunio Barrueta poured in 40 points on 14-26 shooting, including 10-16 from three, and hauled in 13 rebounds. 30 of his 40 points came in the second half.

The Bucs opened the game hot from beyond the arc, hitting 3-4 from deep in the first four and half minutes of the game to open a 13-6 lead at the 15:33 mark.

A Joey Galvis three would pull the Tars within five, 21-16, with 12:45 left in the half before a 7-0 Barry run would push the Rollins deficit to 28-16 at the 11:22 mark.

Rollins would cut it to six with 6:13 on the clock after a Mike Bedulskis lay up and then down to five less than a minute later, 35-30, when Kyle Koszuta hit a pair of free throws.

An 8-3 run, capped by a Philpott layup at the 3:08 mark, would then pull the Tars even at 38-38, forcing a Barry timeout.

Out of the timeout, the Tars would take their first lead since the opening minutes, sparking another mini run, this time 8-4, to take a 46-42 lead into the half.

Almulla led all scorers in the first period with 12 points on 5-6 shooting while Clark added 10. Philpott grabbed four rebounds and Ferrell recorded three assists. Undra Michem led Barry with 11 points while Barrueta had 10 points and eight boards in the first half.

The Tars would jump out to their biggest lead of the game at the 16:30 mark of the second after Bedulskis snagged an offensive rebound and was fouled on the put back. The junior would hit the free throw making it 55-48.

Both teams would trade buckets of the next four minutes, as Rollins fended off a Barrueta three-point barrage, with the Tars still grasping a 65-60 lead with 12:29 left.

The Bucs kept coming, ratting off a 26-6 run to take an 86-71 lead with 6:11 remaining.

Rollins would battle to cut it to a nine-point game with 1:24 to go but that was as close as it would get as the Tars fell to open the New Year.

Rollins will be back in action on Wednesday, January 6 at home against Lynn. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m. Fans can watch all the action live on the Geico Tars Sports Network on RollinsSports.com
