Seventh-Ranked Tars Fall in NCAA Quarterfinal

No. 7 Rollins traveled to No. 1 Lock Haven for the NCAA Quarterfinal on Saturday afternoon but the Bald Eagles proved to be too much, as the Tars fell, 12-3. With the loss, Rollins drops to 0-4 this season when failing to score in double digits.

Rollins' season ends with an overall record of 13-5 while Lock Haven improves to 19-0 and will advance to the NCAA National Semifinals in Salem, Va.

Tyler Thomas led the Tars, accounting for all three Tars goals while Kristina Coppolino and Chelsea Pinneke each recorded assists. Pinneke also added a pair of draw controls in her final career game, setting a new Rollins single season record with 60.

Jessica Pandolf led LHU with four goals on eight shots while Rachel Ward finished with three scores and three ground balls. Jill Murray added two goals and a game high three assists for five points with three others scoring a goal each for the Bald Eagles.

In goal, freshman Malorie Olin finished with eight saves for the Tars in 60 minutes while Chrissy Baffuto made seven saves, also playing the full game for LHU.

Rollins opened the scoring just over four and a half into the game when Coppolino found Ty. Thomas after a free position attempt with 25:28 on the clock.

The Tars would hold the 1-0 lead for over 11 minutes before LHU finally found the back of the net for the first time, the first of five straight goals over the next six-plus minutes to take a 5-1 lead with 7:58 left in the half.

The Bald Eagles would add two more before the half, taking a 7-1 lead into intermission.

LHU continued the pressure out of the break, pushing their lead to 8-1 at the 24:19 mark.

Ty. Thomas would eventually end the Lock Haven scoring streak with 22 minutes left in the game, taking the pass from Pinneke and slipped it past Baffuto for her second goal of the day and 70th of the season.

The Bald Eagles then answered with four more, extending their lead to 12-2 with just over six minutes left to play.

With just over two minutes left, Ty. Thomas finished off her hat trick with an unassisted score.

Both teams had chances over the final minutes of the game but failed to convert, as the game ended in a final of 12-3.
