WINTER PARK, Fla. (May 3, 2015) -
Rollins fell short of setting a new program record for wins in a
season on Sunday, falling to Colorado Mesa, 11-3.
The Tars conclude their season with an overall record of 6-10
while Colorado Mesa improves to 10-3.
The Mavericks outshot Rollins, 42-36, and narrowly edged the
Tars in ground balls, 35-33.
Three different players scored for Rollins in the loss, with Colton
Umberger and Jeremy
Slocumb both recording the first goals as Tars. Sophomore Carson
Buell accounted for the third Rollins score, his 23 of the
season, which is the seventh most in program history. Buell also
finished the year with 16 assists to tie the Rollins single season
record. Senior Jake
Flynn and Connor
Ronan finished with a pair of caused turnovers each in the
final game of their Rollins career.
For Colorado Mesa, Steve Brandenburg, Mitch Flaherty and Daniel
Caddoo all score twice while David Soloman scored one goal and
added a pair of assists.
In goal, Thomas
Troiano started for the Tars, finishing with 12 saves in 60
minutes while Zach Weaver collected 14 saves for the Mavericks.
In total, 12 penalties were called in the physical game, with
eight of those flags coming against Rollins.
Colorado Mesa jumped out to a 6-0 lead deep into the second
quarter before goals by Umberger and Slocumb pulled Rollins back in
it early in the third, making the score 6-2 just 16 seconds into
the second half.
Unfortunately, the Mavericks came back with four unanswered to
all but put the game away in the forth.
Buell would go on to add one last highlight to his sophomore
season, scoring on an underhand shot while being dragged to the
ground late in the fourth.
