WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 6, 2015) The Rollins
softball team was handed its first loss of the season Friday night
at the hands of the Lynn Fighting Knights at MLK Park. The Tars had
runners on base in every inning except the sixth but couldn't break
the game open, succumbing 3-2 to the Fighting Knights.
The Tars are handed their first loss of the season, dropping to
15-1 (3-1 SSC) while Lynn improves to 10-8 (1-0 SSC).
Lynn tallied the first two runs of the game in the second inning
by stringing together four hits, a double followed by three
singles, after a one-out walk.
Rollins tied the score 2-2 in the fourth on a pinch-hit two-run
double by Brianne
Lint. Jule
Kranz scored after reaching on a bunt single and Hailee
Keisling followed her home after being issued a walk.
Lynn scored the decisive final run in the fifth inning with a
bit of small ball. Christina Carvatta led off the inning with a
single to the second baseman then was moved to second on Sara
Vasquez's sac bunt. Kaci Vassallo followed with her only hit of
the night, a single through the right side, to score Carvatta.
Rollins loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth and had a
chance in the seventh after Brittany
Johnson stroked a single to center field but couldn't match the
score.
Niki
Fogle (L, 11-1) allowed three runs on nine hits over the
seven-inning span. She struck out eight Fighting Knights while only
walking one. Her counterpart, Missy Montgomery (6-2), also tossed
all seven innings for Lynn, allowing two runs on eight hits.
Rose
Stevens and Kranz both had a pair of hits. Sid
Masso, Hannah
Horwath, and Lint each tallied a double.
Rollins will be back in action tomorrow, Sat. March. 7, for the
final two games of the series against Lynn. First pitch of the
double header is scheduled for 1 p.m.
