ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (March 20, 2015) The No.
18 Rollins softball team tackled Eckerd 10-2 Friday night in St.
Petersburg. The Tritons would take the lead first but Rollins
stormed back in a big way with an eight run sixth inning.
Hailee
Keisling had a historic night, notching the first five hit
performance in Tars softball history. The sophomore catcher went
5-5 in the game with a double and three RBIs.
Rollins improves to 22-4 (7-3 SSC) while Eckerd drops to 27-4
(8-2 SSC).
Eckerd's Amber Hay helped her own cause in the circle, driving
in the first run of the game, with a single through the right side
of the infield in the third inning.
Eckerd loaded the bases in the fifth frame but the Tars were
able to escape without allowing a run.
Rollins broke the game open in the sixth frame, scoring eight
runs on six hits and sending 11 batters to the plate. The big blast
came in the form of Keisling's bases loaded double over the head of
the left fielder, scoring Sid
Masso and Jule
Kranz.Three more runs scored with two outs when the center
fielder misplayed Brittany
Johnson's single.
Eckerd added a run in the bottom of the sixth before
surrendering two more in the top of the seventh, pushing the final
score to 10-2.
Fogle (W, 17-4) had the upper hand in the duel of the sixteen
game winners in the circle. The junior tossed a complete game,
holding the Tritons to a pair of runs on 10 hits while striking out
nine.
Amber Hay (L, 16-4) tossed 5.2 innings, surrendering eight runs
(five earned) on 12 hits. Janna Gaburo came on in relief of Hay,
allowing two runs in the final 1.1 innings of the game.
Rollins out-hit Eckerd 15-10 on the day. Co-captain Brittany
Johnson went 3-3 with a trio of RBIs.
These two teams will finish up the series tomorrow with a
doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
