FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (February 28, 2015) The Rollins softball team continued its hot start to open 2015, picking up a pair of victories over SSC opponent Nova Southeastern to extend its record to a program-best 12 victories to open the season. Niki Fogle (8-0) picked up two wins today, tossing all 14 innings while shutting out the Sharks 4-0 in Game 1 and holding NSU to a pair of earned runs in the 5-3 second contest.

Saturday's games were the first SSC games of the year for both teams. Rollins extends its overall record to 12-0 (2-0 SSC) while Nova Southeastern drops to 8-7 (0-2 SSC).

Hannah Horwath had her best day in a Tar uniform at the plate Saturday, going a combined 4-5 with a pair of RBIs.

After a lightning delayed the start of the games both teams battled the rain, failing to make a breakthrough until the fourth inning. Jule Kranz started the rally with a one-out walk followed by Rose Stevens single to shortstop. After Hailee Keisling moved the runners over, Hali Marshall knocked both runners home with a double to deep left center.

Rollins would add another pair in the fifth frame to push the score to 4-0 with back-to-back-to-back double by Chelsea Reed, Horwath, and Brittany Johnson. Fogle shut down the Sharks the rest of the way to preserve her second shutout of the year.

After Nova took a two run advantage in the first inning, Rollins responded to tie the game in the fourth. Reed and Horwath led off the inning with a pair of walks and advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch. Johnson drove in the first run with a sac fly to left and Sid Masso followed with a single up the middle to score pinch-runner Bailey Miller.

Rollins would take the lead for good in the fifth, scoring three more by stringing together singles by Courtney Durbin, Reed, Horwath, and Johnson. Masso drove in the fifth and final Tars run with a sac fly to right. NSU scored one unearned run in the sixth and looked to score more until the shortstop Kranz made a diving stop deep in the hole and threw out the lead Sharks runner at home. Fogle again shut down Nova in the seventh to notch her second victory of the day.

Rollins goes for the season sweep of Nova tomorrow, March 1, in Ft. Lauderdale. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
