YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. (February 5, 2015) -
Playing in honor of fallen teammate, Will
Hauver, Rollins opened their 2015 season on Thursday afternoon,
defeating Young Harris on the road, 12-7.
The Tars move to 1-0 on the young season while the Mountain
Lions fall to 0-1.
For Rollins, Carson
Buell led all scorers, erupting for four scores, three in the
second quarter, while classmate Jack
Vonarb recorded a hat trick of his own, finishing with three
goals and an assist. Morgan
Baker chipped in a pair of goals and an assist with Chris
Ross also registering a pair of scores. Adam
Stefanowicz scored his first goal of the year while Dylan
Bassham recorded an assist.
Jaydwn Campbell and Mitch McDole both scored two goals for Young
Harris with three others added a goal each.
In goal, Thomas
Troiano played the full 60 minutes for the Tars, finishing with
11 saves while Alex
Petsos went 15-20 on face offs and led the team with 14 ground
balls.
Vonarb scored the games first goal, giving the Tars an early 1-0
lead just a minute and a half into the game. Neither team would
score over the next 12 minutes of game play before McBroom tied the
score with 1:27 left in the first, eventually sending the game into
the second tied at 1-1.
Rollins would then dominate the second quarter, outshooting YHC,
12-8, in the period en route to taking a 6-3 lead into the half,
led by Buell's three scores. Baker and Ross both scored in the
quarter as well.
The Tars ramped up the defense in the third, extending their
lead to 9-3 after a pair of Vonarb scores sandwiched Ross's second
as Rollins shut out the Mountain Lions in the quarter.
Young Harris would threaten in the fourth, scoring four
unanswered at one point but Buell's fourth followed by
Stefanowicz's score with 2:25 left slammed the door, securing the
win in the season opener.
Rollins will now quickly turn around and travel to Shorter on
Friday afternoon. Face off is set for 1 p.m.
