ROLLINS AT A GLANCE: Last time out, Rollins
traveled to No. 1 Limestone on Friday afternoon but the top-ranked
Saints were too much for the Tars as they eventually fell by a
final score of 17-6. Sophomore Nicholas
Schultz led the Tars with a pair of goals while Carson
Buell and Jack
Vonarb both added a goal and an assist each. Alex
Petsos went 9-22 on face offs while collecting a team high five
ground balls.
In goal, Thomas
Troiano started for the Tars and recorded nine saves in nearly
52 minutes before Andrew
Hoemann came in for the final eight minutes, finishing with two
saves.
As a team, Rollins is averaging an even nine goals per game
while narrowly outshooting opponents 109-101.
Buell leads the team with six goals while Schultz and Vonarb are
tied for second with five goals each. Morgan
Baker has four goals and is tied with Buell and David
Talda for the team lead in assists with three. Petsos, the
Rollins career leaders in ground balls and face off winning
percentage, is 35-60 on face offs for the year with a team best 24
ground balls.
The Spring of 2015 marks the sixth season at Rollins for Head
Coach RJ
Rossi, fifth as head coach after serving one season as an
assistant, riding the momentum of the best season in program
history. Rossi lead the 2014 team to a program best in wins and a
berth into the inaugural Sunshine State Conference Tournament. Over
his five-year tenure at Rollins, Rossi has coached 13
All-Conference selections, including two first team All-SSC
honorees in 2014, one Academic All-District selection and has had
one player named to the SSC All-Tournament team.
CATAWBA AT A GLANCE: Last time out, Catawba
fell to Belmont Abbey, 15-6, last Saturday afternoon. Freshman
Dalton Cook had two goals and an assist for the Indians. Connor
Kennedy added a goal and an assist. Connor Eakes won 13-of-16
face-offs for the Indians and grabbed nine ground balls.
Before the season, Catawba was picked sixth in the South
Atlantic Conference preseason coaches poll. Daniel Rew was named
second team at the specialist position. Rew serves as the primary
face-off man for the Indians and won 54% (92-of-171) of his
opportunities last year. The senior led the team with 60 ground
balls and also scored four goals.
The Indians are coming off a fourth-place finish in 2014 in the
initial year of lacrosse as a conference sport.
Through two games, Cook leads the team with five goals while
Kennedy and Ty Sellers each have three goals. Cook is also tied
with Josh Reedy for the team lead in assists with two.
Peter Bourque has been the head coach of the Catawba men's
lacrosse program since its inception in 1993. Along with his
coaching duties, Bourque also serves as an Assistant Athletic
Director at Catawba. He guided the Catawba Indians to three
straight Deep South Tournament Championships (2011, 2012, 2013) and
a school-record 14 wins in 2012.
SERIES: Rollins is 0-7 all-time against
Catawba, losing the most recent meeting, 9-8, in overtime on
3/12/14. Schultz led Rollins with three goals while Buell added a
