WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 13, 2015) - The
Rollins volleyball team put up a good fight against the
tenth-ranked Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Friday night, but were
unable to reel in their opponent as they fell by a final score of
3-0 (25-18, 28-26, 25-21) in Warden Arena. The loss drops Rollins
to an overall mark of 10-17, while PBA advances to a record of 24-3
on the season.
Sophomore Bri
Civiero led the squad in kills with 15, while April
Jackson earned a team best 21 assists on the night. The two
notched double-doubles as Civiero added 16 digs, and Jackson
tallied 14 digs of her own. Senior MaryEllen
Pole continued her streak, earning 14 assists on the night for
her 27th-straight double-digit assist match this
season. Rachel
Sawyer had a solid night on defense, leading the team in digs
with 19, followed by Rebecca
Wilson with 17. Kerra
Tirado led at the net, putting up a team best four blocks.
The Sailfish were led in scoring by Faith Rohn, who posted 17
kills. Alexandra Roberst and Ally Rohn earned 19 and 17 assists,
respectively. Rachael Holehouse led the match in digs with 26,
while Sarah Ragland earned a match high six blocks, including four
solo blocks.
The first set opened with plenty of back-and-forth action.
Neither team was able to take more than a two-point advantage
until the Sailfish scored four consecutive points to push their
lead to 15-11. The Tars would pull with in one at 17-16, but that
was as close as they would get as the Sailfish pulled away to take
the first set 25-18.
The second stanza started similarly to the first, with the two
teams trading blows. The Sailfish took a three point lead at 11-8,
but the Tars would not go away easily. Rollins stormed back to
take the lead 17-16, before extending their advantage to five,
23-18.
The Sailfish would not back down either, mounting a comeback of
their own and tying the set at 24. The Tars pulled out by two,
26-25, but Palm Beach Atlantic nabbed three straight points to
complete the comeback and take the second set 28-26.
PBA jumped out to an early lead in the final frame, scoring 13
of the first 18 points. The Tars dug in their heels and fought
back, cutting the lead to as little as two, 22-20, but were unable
to overcome the initial deficit as they fell to the
nationally-ranked Sailfish by a final set score of 25-21.
The Tars return to action on Saturday, November 14 when they
host Barry University at 4 p.m. on Senior Day. Fans who are unable
to make it to the match will be able to follow all of the live
