Civiero, Tars Earn Victories over Muleriders and Wolves

WINTER PARK, Fla. - (September 5, 2014) - The Rollins volleyball team earned 3-1 and 3-0 victories over the Southern Arkansas Muleriders and the West Georgia Wolves Friday evening in the Rollins Invitational at the Warden Arena.

Freshman Bri Civiero had an a great performance for the Tars as she registered 17 kills against Southern Arkansas for a .355 hitting percentage and 10 kills against West Georgia.

Jessica Wilson added a 10-kill performance against Southern Arkansas, while Shannon McDonough recorded 13 kills against West Georgia.

Rollins (2-0) began fast and did not look back against Southern Arkansas as the team opened the season with 25-11 and 25-18 first and second set wins. Rollins hit .458 in the first set, while holding the Muleriders to a .097 hitting percentage.

The Tars concluded the fourth set with a 25-14 match victory against Southern Arkansas.

Against West Georgia the Tars fought back from a 24-22 deficit to win the first set 26-24. Senior Collyn Welsch led the Tars with 12 digs, while April Jackson accounted for 20 assists and Kate Stefanski accumulated nine kills.

In the second set, Rollins took control early and won 25-17. The Tars were able to jump out to an early lead in the third set and seal the match with a 25-11 win. McDonough led the way with 13 kills ,while Rollins was able to overcome three lead changes and ten tie scores.

The Tars continue action in the Rollins Invitational tommorrow at 11 a.m. against Texas A&M Kingsville and against St. Cloud State at 7 p.m.
