WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (September 27, 2014) - Shannon
McDonough (Orlando, Fla.) led Rollins (8-5, 2-2) with 18 kills
and five blocks as the Tars fell in five sets to No. 25-ranked Palm
Beach Atlantic 25-23, 21-25, 19-25, 25-11, 15-10.

Civiero (Mount Dora, Fla.) finished the game with 11 kills and
five blocks. Jenny
Ceballos (Miami, Fla.) added ten kills and nine digs, while Jessica
Wilson (Winter Haven, Fla.) added five kills and four digs. Kianna
Dieudonne (Louisville, Ky.) returned to the lineup and had four
blocks and two kills.
Collyn
Welsch (Gainsville, Fla.) led the Tars with 24 digs and MaryEllen
Pole (Ocala, Fla.) accumulated 33 assists. As a team the Tars
with .121, had 64 digs and ten blocks. Rollins had just 14 errors
in the first two sets but finished with 33.
Faith Rohn led the Sailfish with 26 kills, only three errors and
a .383 hitting percentage. As a team PBA hit .217, just 23 attack
errors, 65 digs and 58 assists.
Set 1: The Tars began fast in the first set taking a 9-4 lead.
McDonough and Dieudonne both had big impacts in the first set as
the combo had seven blocks and five kills. The Tars kept the
pressure on after a Dieudonne block gave Rollins the 12-8 lead.
Five Rollins blocks gave the Tars the momentum to win the next four
points and take a 19-16 lead. A kill by Jessica Wilson kept the
Tars alive down 24-23, but the Sailfish won the set 25-23 with
seven kills from Faith Rohn. The Tars hit .091 and PBA hit .100 in
the first set. McDonough and Wilson each had three kills, while
Civiero had four blocks and two kills. Welsch had nine digs and
Pole added eight assists.
Set 2: Rollins took a 4-1 lead in the second set after winning
four straight points on a hitting error by PBA's Ballantyne. The
Tars kept a 7-4 lead after McDonough picked up her fifth kill. A
kill by Kaitlyn Sawyer helped the Tars maintain a 10-7 lead. Both
teams would exchange points as another McDonough kill gave Rollins
the 13-10 lead. A service ace by Ceballos gave the Tars an 18-13
lead. A double hit on PBA gave the Tars a 21-14 lead. A nice set up
by Pole and a kill by Wilson gave Rollins the 23-20 lead. A service
error by PBA gave Rollins the second set win 25-21. Rollins hit
.229 and had only four errors, while PBA hit .190. McDonough had
five kills and Civiero added four kills. Pole added eight assists
and Welsch had five digs for the Tars.
Set 3: With Pole serving, Rollins began the set winning the
first seven points, which included four attack errors by PBA and a
kill by McDonough. Rollins kept a 10-4 lead after McDonough
recorded her tenth kill. At 13-7, The Tars reestablished the
momentum that gave the team the 7-0 lead after a block by Civiero
allowed Rollins to stay ahead by seven. Rollins won seven straight
points after a Sawyer kill gave Rollins the 19-7 lead. The Sailfish
won the next three points after a Rohn kill to cut the Tars lead to
19-10. McDonough hit her 12th kill of the match to give
the Tars the comfortable 23-13 lead. A kill by Ceballos gave the
Tars the 25-19 set win. Following set three the Tars had a .198
hitting percentage as a team. PBA's Rohn had 17 kills through three
sets.
Set 4: The Sailfish won the first seven points in the set after
Rohn had four kills to lead PBA. The Tars won five of the next
seven points and trailed 9-5 after McDonough recorded her
14th kill. Trailing 15-7, Ceballos eighth kill of the
match kept the Tars close. In the set, PBA hit .407 while Rollins
hit -.095. The Tars had 11 attack errors in the set.
Set 5: With the set tied 2-all, a McDonough kill gave the Tars
the early 3-2 lead. A Ceballos kill pulled the Tars within one at
6-5. Rollins and PBA switched sides with the Tars trailing 8-5. A
kill by Civiero pulled the Tars within 12-8, but PBA came away with
a .474 hitting percentage and just one error to win the set
15-10.
