FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (September 19, 2014)
- The Rollins Volleyball team (6-4, 0-2) lost a four-set
match to the Nova Southeastern Sharks (6-4, 1-0) Friday evening
(25-16, 25-20, 16-25, 25-18) from NSU Arena.
Rollins was led by freshman Bri
Civiero (Mount Dora, Fla.), who had 15 kills, and Jessica
Wilson (Winter Haven, Fla.), who hit .435 as she had 11 kills
and just one error. Freshman Jenny
Ceballos (Miami, Fla.) had a season-high 15 digs, while Collyn
Welsch (Gainsville, Fla.) also tallied nine digs. Junior
setter MaryEllen
Pole (Ocala, Fla.) had a game-high 25 assists, while Shannon
McDonough (Orlando, Fla.) added nine kills and a .316 hitting
percentage. As a team, Rollins made 55 digs but were outhit .232 to
.158. The Tars finished the match with 47 assists, 28 attack errors
and 49 kills in 133 attempts.
Nova Southeastern hit a combined .232 with outside hitter Sydney
Cook leading the way with 12 kills, six digs and five blocks. Dana
Holger and Natalie Melcher each contributed 10 kills, while Candice
Johnson added a team-high 14 digs and Katie Pyles had 30
assists.
In the first two sets, Rollins hit 14 errors and the team's
attack percentages were .094 and .200 while Nova Southeastern
managed to hit .407 in the first set and .314 in the second set.
The Tars were able to muster a quality third set, which they hit
.407 as a team, but fourth set attack errors (10) held the team
from coming back. There were 10 tie scores and four lead changes in
the match.
