HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (May 10, 2014) The Rollins
College softball team knocked off Tuskegee 5-1 Saturday afternoon
at Charger Park to advance to the NCAA South Region 1 Championship.
Chelsea
Reed went 3-3 with a triple, home run, and a pair of RBIs.
Rollins improves to 39-11 on the year after the victory, while
Tuskegee drops to 30-15.
Reed got the scoring started early for the Tars by sending her
third home run of the year over the left field fence to give
Rollins the 1-0 advantage.
Courtney
Durbin got the rally started in the in the bottom of the third
with a walk. Kristie
Hoeffer followed with a bloop single to center field and Veronica
Alred knocked both runners home with a double to left center.
After advancing to third on a pass ball, Alred scored on Reed's RBI
single to give the Tars a 4-0 advantage.
Tuskegee scored their only run of the game in the top of the
sixth on a solo home run but Rollins got the run back in the bottom
of the inning when Reed tripled and scored on a ground out, moving
the final score to 5-1.
Stephanie
Sullivan (W, 13-6) allowed one run in 5.1 innings pitched. The
senior scattered seven hits and racked up three strikeouts. Niki
Fogle pitched the final 1.2 innings in relief, holding the Lady
Tigers hitless, striking out three and recording her fifth save of
the year.
Rollins continues tomorrow in the South Region Championship Game
at 1 p.m. CDT.
