WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 23, 2014) - The
Rollins men's lacrosse team hosted Colorado Mesa on Sunday but fell
11-9 to the Mavericks at Barker Family Stadium.
The Tars drop to 5-4 on the season, while CMU improves to
3-0.
Jack
Vonarb led the offense with three goals. Jack
Dever and Will
Diamond each netted two goals apiece. Morgan
Baker finished with a pair of assists.
Stephen Dunn led CMU with five goals.
Sophomore faceoff specialist Alex
Petsos went 20-24 in face-offs.
In goal, Trevor
Jackson was charged with the loss, recording 11 saves.
Rollins managed to net only one goal in the first period as they
trailed 3-1. Dever put Rollins on the board with 12:23 on the
clock on an unassisted goal.
The Tars had a huge second period as they scored four goals and
held the Mavericks to two to even the score at five goals
apiece.
First, Nicholas
Schultz cut the deficit in half to start the second on an
unassisted goal at the 12:10 mark. Not even a minute later, Will
Diamond scored his first goal of the game to come within one of
the Mavericks, 4-3.
Jack
Vonarb then scored back-to-back goals to head into the half
with the score tied at 5-5. The Tars outshot CMU 13-8 in the
half.
CMU won the third quarter 3-2, sending the game into the fourth
with the Tars trailing, 8-7.
Dever would open the period with a quick score off an assist by
Baker before the Mavericks scored back-to-back goals to take a
two-goal lead, 10-8.
Diamond, with his second goal of the game, put Rollins back by
one, 10-9, with 6:30 left in the game but Colorado Mesa's Dylan
Duresky would score with 1:31, effectively ending the game in a
final of 11-9.
Rollins will take a week off before returning to Sunshine State
Conference action as they host Florida Tech on Saturday, March 29
at 1 p.m.
