WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 16, 2014) -
After a slow start on Sunday, Rollins (4-3) picked up the
intensity and eventually cruised to a 14-7 win over Young Harris
(3-7). The win set a new program season high for wins in a
season.
The Tars dominated in just about every statistical category in
the victory, outshooting the Mountain Lions, 43-23, and collected
almost twice as many ground balls, 52-27. Rollins also won 18 of 25
face-offs, led by sophomore Alex
Petsos who won 16.
Senior co-captain Jack
Dever led all scorers, finishing with four goals and an assist
while freshman Jack
Vonarb added three goals with an assist. Seven other players
each added a goal for the Tars.
Joe Appolonia and Ryan Ningard led YHC with two scores each.
In the cage, Thomas
Troiano and Andrew
Sheerin split time, combining for five saves with Troiano
picking up the win in his second career start.
The first quarter was sloppy by both teams with neither team
getting on the board for nearly 14 minutes of play. YHC would
finally scored with 1:13 left in the first to take a 1-0 lead
before Vonarb answered with just 25 seconds left in the period to
tie it at 1-1 after one.
The Mountain Lions seized momentum early in the second, and even
led 3-2 with 12:09 left in the half, but Rollins then rattled off
seven unanswered goals over the rest of the second quarter and into
the third to take a 9-3 lead with 11:42 left in the third
quarter.
With momentum in hand, the Tars coasted the rest of the way,
outscoring YHC 5-4 the rest of the half, including a pair of goals
by Dever and the first of the year by both Petsos and John
Herbert.
Rollins will be back in action on Wednesday, March
19th when the host Lynn in an SSC battle. Fans that
