CLEARWATER, Fla. (February 8, 2014)-

Lee 10, Rollins 4

Rollins fell victim to one big inning Saturday afternoon against Lee University at the Eckerd Invitational in Clearwater, Fla.

Senior Stephanie Sullivan (0-2) took the loss despite opening the game with five shutout innings. Her final line read five and two-thirds innings pitched, five earned runs, three walks, and four strikeouts.

Courtney Durbin scored the first run of the game on an errant wild pitch in the third inning after the Tars led off the Frame with a pair of walks.

Rollins added another run on the fifth thanks to a couple of heads-up plays. Senior Kristie Hoeffer stretched a bloop single into a double after she realized that both the Blazer shortstop and second baseman were still in shallow center field and nobody was covering second. Veronica Alred was hit by the next pitch, giving the Tars two aboard. Fogle lined the next pitch to the second baseman, who threw to the Blazers shortstop to record the force out at second base but was not able to complete the double play due to Alred's slide. Hoeffer, breaking on contact, was able to round third and score on the groundball that never left the infield, giving the Tars a 2-0 advantage.

The sixth inning was one that Rollins hopes to soon forget. Lee sent 14 batters to the plate, scoring ten runs on five hits. Rollins got two back on Durbin's single down the left field line in the bottom half of the inning but the big inning was too much to overcome in the end for the Tars.

No. 5 Armstrong Atlantic 2, Rollins 0

The second Rollins game of the day was a marquee pitching matchup that featured two-hit complete games by both Rollins' Fogle and Armstrong Atlantic's Ollivia McLemore.

Hailee Keisling registered an infield single in the top of the third on a liner up the middle that deflected off the pitcher and kicked toward the shortstop. She was stranded at second after being advanced on a sacrifice bunt. Senior co-captain Alred registered the second Tars hit of the game with a leadoff fourth inning single to right field.

The only scoring of the contest happened in the bottom of the fourth inning. Fogle struck out the leadoff hitter but the batter was able to reach first base when the final strike bounced past the catcher. Armstrong Atlantic's next batter capitalized on the mistake, connecting for a two-run home run to dead center, giving the Pirates a 2-0 lead.

Armstrong Atlantic's lone other hit came in the bottom of the fifth - a two-out double down the left field line. The sophomore pitcher retired the next Pirate to get out of the inning.

Fogle (3-3) allowed two hits, two runs, one walk, and registered five strikeouts in the contest.

Rollins' overall record drops to 3-5 (0-0 SSC) after the day's results. Lee improves to 2-2 and Armstrong Atlantic now sits at 4-1.

Rollins will finish up the Invitational Sunday at 12:30 pm against Lindenwood. Fans will be able to catch all the action live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
