SAINT LEO, Fla. (November 14, 2014) - Freshman
Julia
Ingler made a splash in her college debut and senior Emmalee
Schill posted a double-double as 23rd-ranked Rollins
downed Montevallo 66-59 in the season opener Friday.
The game opened play at the Saint Leo Classic, presented by
Sleep Inn.
Ingler poured in 17 points and added five rebounds and two
steals without committing a turnover to lead the Tars (1-0). Schill
added 15 points and 10 rebounds with Cassidy
Bailey notching a career-high 14 points.
Jacquelyn Thompson posted a game-high 25 points to pace
Montevallo (0-1). Carrington Caise filled the stat sheet with 15
points, seven assists and four rebounds.
The Tars missed their first seven shots and fell behind 6-0
before head coach Glenn Wilkes
Jr. looked to his bench to provide a spark. Marie
Gilbert got Rollins on the board with a jumper four minutes in
and started an 11-2 run, punctuated by a Schill triple.
The Falcons went back on top their next trip down the floor as
the two teams went on to trade the lead nine more times the rest of
the half.
Bailey put the Tars ahead 31-30 going into the break, dropping a
pair of free throws with five seconds left.
In the second, Rollins took a four-point lead early, only to
have Montevallo swing things back their way, 42-37 with 13 minutes
to play.
Five straight points from Bailey and an Ingler 3-pointer over
the next four minutes put the Tars up for good, building as much as
a 10-point advantage in the waning minutes.
Rollins shot 32 percent (22-68) while Montevallo hit 39 percent
(22-58). The Tars committed just 11 turnovers and forced 27, but
were beat on the glass 48-40.
