WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 25, 2014) - Collyn
Welsch led Rollins (15-12) with a season-high 11 kills
and 13 digs, but the Tars fell to No. 19 Palm Beach Atlantic (26-2)
3-0, 25-22, 25-22, 25-22 on Saturday afternoon from the Alfond
Sports Center.
Shannon
McDonough had nine kills in 27 attempts and two digs. Abby
Jo Winsor led the Tars with 16 digs. Jessica
Wilson earned six kills and a .278 hitting percentage with
three blocks.
MaryEllen
Pole led Rollins with 17 assists and April
Jackson finished with 11 assists. Jennifer
Ceballos added 10 digs and four kills. As a team, Rollins hit
.167, adding 40 kills, 52 digs and seven blocks.
PBA's Faith Rohn led the Sailfish with 14 kills, 17 digs and a
.308 hitting percentage. Becca Acevedo finished with 41 assists
while Rachael Holehouse earned 18 digs to lead PBA. Palm Beach
Atlantic finished with 44 kills, 58 digs, five blocks and a .223
hitting percentage.
Set One: The Tars opened up the first set strong as kills by
Shannon McDonough and Kianna Dieudonne gave Rollins the 7-3 early
lead. PBA came back with a run of their own winning nine of the
next 13 points to take a 12-11 lead. At 16-15, The Sailfish won the
next three points off a Welsch attack error, service ace by Acevedo
and kill by Rohn to take a 19-15 lead. Rollins answered with three
straight points of their own. Kills by Jessica Wilson and Jenny
Ceballos along with a Pole service ace gave the Tars some momentum
as they trailed 19-18. PBA found an answer at 22-21 as the Sailfish
forced two attack errors and won the set 25-22 off a kill by Emma
Ballantyne. Rollins hit .147 in the set with 11 kills and six
errors. PBA hit .333, adding 15 kills and only four errors.
Set Two: The Tars started the second set like they began the
first, taking a 7-4 lead off kills by Wilson, McDonough, Pole and
Katllyn Sawyer. PBA won nine of the next 14 points to take a 13-12
lead. Rollins tied the set at 15-all off another rare kill by Pole.
Afterwards, Rollins came within two several times (20-18, 21-19,
22-20, 23-21, 24-22) but could not get a critical point to go their
way. PBA won the set 25-22. The Tars hit .231, having 16 kills and
seven errors. The Sailfish had 14 kills, five errors while hitting
.250.
Set Three: Trailing by as much as 7-5 to start, the Tars came
back with a run of their own winning eight of the next 10 to take a
13-9 lead off kills by McDonough, Welsch, Ceballos and Wilson.
Rollins held a 15-10 lead but PBA came back winning seven of the
next nine points to tie the match at 17-all. An error by
MaryBethany Vincent and kills by Faith Rohn gave PBA the 20-18
lead. Rollins came back to tie the set at 20-all off a kill by
Sawyer and attack error by Brown. However, PBA won the next three
points off a kill, service ace and attack error by McDonough to
take a 23-20 lead. PBA won the set 25-22 off a kill by Emma
Ballantyne. Rollins hit .132, adding 13 kills and six errors. PBA
had 15 kills, eight errors and hit .135.
