TAMPA, Fla. (October 25, 2014) -
The 11th-ranked Tars came from behind on Saturday
afternoon to defeat conference rival, No. 25 Tampa, 3-1, on the
road.
With the win, Rollins improves to 13-2 overall and closes out
their SSC schedule at 7-1, sitting atop the conference standings
for the time being. The Tars would claim their fourth SSC regular
season title if Barry were to lose or draw one of their two
remaining conference games. In the event of a tie, Barry would own
the tiebreaker, beating the Tars head-to-head on Oct. 4.
Mora
Johnson led the way offensively for Rollins, scoring a pair of
goals, while Paxton
Sickler converted a PK midway through the second half. Nicole
Fischer chipped in with her fourth assist of the year.
In goal, Mary
Spring played the full 90 minutes for the Tars, recording five
saves.
The Spartans would jump out to the 1-0 lead halfway through the
first half on Beate Jaeckel's first goal of the season off the
assist from Gabby Russo in the 17th minute.
Johnson would eventually pull the Tars back even before half,
streaking behind the Tampa backline and chipped a shot past
Spartans keeper Caroline Frykgard to send the game into the half
tied at 1-1.
Johnson then gave Rollins their first lead of the afternoon in
the 58th minute, her team leading 12th goal
of the season, off the pass from Fischer.
The Tars would then put the game out of reach 10 minutes later
when Sickler converted a PK after the sophomore was pulled down in
the box by Tampa defender Kaley Ward. Ward was issued a red card on
the play.
The Tars will now take a few days off before traveling to Palm
Beach Atlantic on Tuesday, Oct. 28th to close out their
regular season. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. Live stat links will be
