WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 18, 2013) -
This past week, at halftime of their match with then No. 1 West
Florida, the Rollins women's soccer team honored one of the
programs all-time best, Ashley
Waplinger.
Part of the class of 2012, Waplinger played in every scheduled
game over her four-year career, an outstanding accomplishment. The
Bainbridge Island, Wash. native is third all-time in Rollins
history with 27 career assists in over 5,300 minutes played.
"It's an honor and a privilege to be able to highlight a
superior person and alumni of our program", said Tars head coach Alicia
Schuck.
"Ashley has distinguished herself as one of the most well
rounded and significant contributors to our women's soccer program.
Her level of success is unmatched as a student and athlete. She
stood out on the field with her attacking in the width of the field
and her quick reactions to break up opponents attack. In the
classroom she took on one of the most difficult majors and excelled
with leaps and bounds over her classmates.
What makes Ashley's achievements all the more remarkable is the
fact that she played every game that she was eligible for in her
four-year career. She never took days off from practice and she
played through any pain injury.
Ashley was a coaches dream player. She gave it her all, without
ever having to ask her to do it. Her hard working mentality,
dedication to her team and sport, and proven enthusiasm will stand
out in my mind as one of the best we will may ever have in the
program.
I am a huge fan of Ashley and know that wherever her plans take
her, to Medical School and beyond, she will be extremely successful
person."
The inaugural award will now be known as the "Ashley Waplinger Award" moving forward and will be
given to an alum each year that displayed outstanding enthusiasm,
dedication, discipline, inspiration and encouragement during her
career as a Rollins Tar.
