WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 15, 2013) -
The No. 7 Tars, led by senior Rafa
Faria's hat trick, blew past visiting Florida Memorial on
Sunday, defeating the Lions by a score of 6-1.
Much of the action Sunday afternoon came in the first half as
Rollins outshot FMU 11-3 in the period and took eight corners
compared to the Lions' zero.
The first 22 minutes belonged to Faria alone as the senior
scored three goals over the span. His first came in sixth minute on
a volley off a corner taken by Skyler
Russell. Next came an unassisted goal in the 20th
minute after collecting a rebound and then the Miami native
finished off his hat trick in the 22nd minute, ripping a
shot from the top of the penalty area that ricocheted off the cross
bar and in.
Sebastian
Walker then padded the Tars' lead seven minutes later, taking a
cross from Tosan
Popo and found the back of the net inside far post to push the
score to 4-0.
The Lions would get on the board shortly after, cutting the
Rollins lead to 4-1 when Marco Perretta gathered a rebound in front
of the net and slid it past Anthony
White in goal for the Tars.
But Rollins wasn't done yet in the first half as Walker
Hume scored his second goal of the young season, heading a
Russell corner past Lions keeper Gabriel Umansky just before
half.
The tempo slowed coming out of halftime as the Tars emptied
their bench but sophomore Brett
Durrance, much to the delight of the fans that came out on
Sunday, found the back of the net in the 75th minute,
pushing the score to 6-1. Since the Tars were able to score six
goals, all fans in attendance received a voucher for a free
smoothie courtesy of Tropical Smoothie Café.
White played all 90 minutes in goal for Rollins, recording four
saves. Umansky collected a pair of saves for FMU.
The Tars will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 18 when they
welcome Florida Tech for a non-conference match. Kickoff is set for
7:30 p.m. Fans can follow along live on the Tars Sports Network on
