FLORENCE, Ala. (September 14, 2013) - Rollins
faced host North Alabama in the Tars' final match of the day and
swept the Lions in straight sets (25-15, 25-21, 25-15) to complete
the North Alabama Classic Saturday at Flowers Hall.
Senior Camille
Indest led theTars with 10 kills and four blocks. Jessica
Wilson added seven kills with a .429 hitting percentage and
four blocks. April
Jackson and MaryEllen
Pole aided the Tars' 38 kills with 18 and 13 assists
respectively.
Defensively, Collyn
Welsch led the team with 13 digs while Ruth
Harrington added 11 digs.
In the opening frame, the score remained close through midway of
the set before the Tars managed to pull away from the Lions.
Rollins took advantage of a defensive miscue by the Lions that gave
way to the Tars' eventual 25-15 win. The Tars hit a .295 and held
UNA to a negative hitting percentage (-.034).
Rollins came out strong in set No. 2 as they forced an early UNA
timeout at the 6-1 mark. The Tars pushed through, allowing the
Lions to come no closer than three points. A kill by Ruth
Harrington gave the Tars match point and won the set on a
defensive miscue by UNA.
In the final set, Rollins went on a 5-1 run before allowing the
Lions to put a score on the board. North Alabama took a
short-lived lead at the 8-7 mark on a kill by Joanna Calhoun but
was quickly taken back on a serving error. Rollins regained the
lead on another error by the Lions and pulled away on a 4-1 run.
Aroon
Duncanson secured the Tars' 25-15 win on a kill to win the
match.
Rollins now improves to 8-0 on the season while North Alabama
falls to 2-6.
The Tars will open at home on Wednesday, Sept. 18 as Rollins
hosts Warner University. First serve is set for 7 p.m. Fans can
