LAKELAND, Fla. (May 10, 2013) - Rollins split the final doubleheader of the 2013 season taking game one 7-5 and suffering a 10-0 loss in the rubber match Friday afternoon at Historic Henley Field.

In game one of Friday's doubleheader, the Tars used a five-run sixth inning to lift them past the Mocs. Rollins batted around in the inning, scoring the five runs on five hits.

Brett Flutie led off the inning with a single down the left field line and then advanced to second on grounder. Another base hit moved Flutie to third and then came around to score on a Hunter Mayfield RBI single. Mayfield and Matt Hendricks scored the second and third runs of the frame on a 2-RBI single by Thomas Kelly. Steve Betcherman and Kelly then scored the final runs of the inning on a Persky 2-RBI single.

Florida Southern took the early lead in the opening frame scoring one run, followed by another three in the bottom third. Rollins slowly closed the gap, plating one run in the second and another run in the top third.

Mocs starter Alex Norris held the Tars scoreless through the next two innings before a crucial 5-run sixth gave the Tars the lead.

Pitching in relief for Rollins was Eric Morse as he picked up his sixth save of the year. The right-hander came in to pitch in the sixth and held FSC to one run on four hits. Starter Taylor Smith earned his seventh win of the season tossing six innings, while striking out eight.

Eight of the nine Rollins starters registered at least one hit. Hendricks added two runs on the day while Persky and Kelly each drove in a pair of runs.

In the rubber match and final game of the 2013 season, Rollins struggled to get on the board as they allowed five runs in the first. The Tar went through three arms, including starting pitcher Isaiah Sakany. The Mocs tacked on another four runs in the third, while keeping the Tars off the board.

Rollins allowed 11 hits while only scattering five of their own. Steve Betcherman was 3-for-3 in game two while Boston Langley and Cam Brown had the teams remaining two base hits.

Sakany was charged with the loss in 0.2 innings on the mound. Sakany allowed four runs on three hits.

Brian Johnson was the pitcher of record in five innings of work. He struck out two, walked one and did not allow a run on three hits.

Rollins concludes the 2013 season with a record of 24-23-1 and a 9-14-1 record in the Sunshine State Conference.
