ST. CHARLES, Mo. (April 12, 2013) - For the
second straight game, fifth-ranked Rollins put together an
improbable comeback, beating previously undefeated Lindenwood 13-12
on the road Saturday.
The Tars (11-1) were staring at a 12-10 deficit with 11 minutes
to play but goals by Erica Pagliarulo and Tyler Thomas knotted the
score by the five-minute mark. Pagliarulo then netted the game
winner with 2:12 to play.
Thomas and Sophie Townsend each scored three goals to lead
Rollins' attack. Pagliarulo and Kelly Thayer both scored tallied
two scores.
Elyse De Lisle earned the decision in the cage, totaling 12
saves; including seven stops on 12 Lindenwood second half
tries.
Shelby Polk was the top scorer for the Lady Lions (12-1),
putting up four goals and one assist. Melissa Smith followed with
three goals. Christine Hehmeyer was saddled with the loss, totaling
four saves.
Lindenwood jumped out quick as a Polk goal in the first few
seconds started LU off on the right foot. Thomas then earned
back-to-back scores over the next eight minutes and swung momentum
Rollins' way.
After a Lady Lions score, Townsend and Thayer each got on the
board to give the Tars a 4-2 lead midway through the first.
However, four unanswered from Lindwood over the next six minutes
put the hosts on top 6-4. Thayer and Townsend then knotted it up
with back to back goals before another LU score late gave the Lady
Lions a 7-6 halftime advantage.
Rollins was down as much as 9-6 early in the second.
Mo Imel got the ball rolling Rollins way with a score at the
25:27 mark, but the Tars battled close and couldn't take the
lead.
Smith later scored her third of the day for LU with 11:02 to
play and put Rollins in a 12-10 hole.
Pagliarulo converted a free position shot with 6:41 on the clock
and Thomas netted a Caroline Lamere pass with 5:24 to play, tying
the score at 12. Pagliarulo then came up big with 2:12 left,
scoring what would become the game winner.
Rollins will complete its week long four-state road trip on
Sunday, April 14 taking on McKendree at 11 a.m.
