DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 11, 2013) -
The sixth ranked Tars closed out their regular season on
Thursday, eventually falling on the road to NAIA second ranked
Embry-Riddle, 6-3.
The match was originally scheduled for Valentines Day but was
postponed due to inclement weather.
With the loss, Rollins finishes the regular season at 11-8 while
E-R improves to 18-2.
The Tars jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after doubles, taking
the No. 2 and 3 matches to take the one point advantage.
First, Cooper
Maxwell and Adrian Di
Felice improved to 11-5 as a pair, defeating Simon Felix and
Kevin Chaouat, 8-3, in the No. 3 match before Robin
Marchione and Malte
Christesen beat Embry-Riddle's Anthony Grasso and Miguel Lopez
Gomez, 9-7, in the No. 2 spot. Marchione and Christesen finish the
regular at a perfect 2-0 as a team.
Rollins then dropped first three singles matches (4,6,2) to fall
behind 4-2 before Christesen beat Grasso in the No. 3 match to pull
back within at point at 4-3. Chistesen closes the regular season
with an impressive 14-5 record overall, 8-1 when in the No. 3
singles slot.
But that was as close as it would get as the Tars came up short
in the remaining two matches, losing by a final of 6-3.
Rollins will begin SSC tournament play on Thursday, Apr. 18. For
