MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (November 1, 2013) - The Rollins volleyball team swept the Barry Buccaneers in straight sets (25-20, 25-15, 25-20) at the Health & Sports Center Friday night.

Rollins now improves to 18-6 on the season and 5-4 in conference action, while Barry drops to 8-12 overall and 1-8 in the league.

Katlyn Sawyer led the Tars offense as she matched a season-best 12 kills, to go with a .458 hitting percentage. Ruth Harrington was one kill shy of recording her fifth double-double of the year as she notched nine kills and 11 digs.

Camille Indest also pitched in with a nine-kill effort, to go with three digs and one block. As a team, Rollins hit .337, the third best hitting percentage this season.

Rollins hit a .419 in the opening frame after jumping out to an early lead over the Bucs. After a 2-all tie to start the set, Rollins pulled away from the Bucs, never looking back. A kill by Sawyer secured the 25-20 win in the first set.

In the second set, Rollins and Barry went point-for-point until a kill by Kelly Merideth at the 8-7 mark gave way for some Tars momentum. Barry was able to come within one point on multiple occasions, but could never take a lead over the Tars.

Rollins used a 9-1 run to take a 22-14 lead over Barry, which resulted with the Tars winning the second frame 25-15. Back-to-back blocks by Rollins secured the win.

After the intermission, Rollins returned to secure the sweep with a 25-20 win in the third set. The score tied on three occasions, with the lead returning to the Tars all three times. Rollins closed out the set on a 4-1 run, with Kate Stefanski recording the final point on a solo block.

Ashley Carrero led the Bucs with 12 kills and 10 digs, while Ivana Didanovic added nine kills.

Up next for the Tars will be a 4 p.m. match-up against the Florida Tech Panthers in Melbourne. Fans can follow the action live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
