WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 17, 2013) - As four
seniors played in their final home match of the season, the Rollins
volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 16-25, 24-26) decision
to No. 19 Palm Beach Atlantic Sunday afternoon at Warden Arena.
Rollins drops to an overall record of 21-9, while
19th-ranked Palm Beach Atlantic extends their win streak
to 20 matches and improve to 29-3 in the regular season. Sunday
was the final match for the 'Fish as they await their fate for
postseason play.
The Tars were pacedf by junior Collyn
Welsch with a career-high 20 kills, 13 digs and a season-best
two blocks. Camille
Indest added 11 kills in the Tars loss with four digs and four
blocks.
Kelly
Merideth posted seven kills, seven assists, eight digs and one
block on Senior Day.
In the opening set, Rollins was held to a .095 hitting
percentage as the Sailfish hit .367 en route to a 25-18 win. Both
teams traded points to start the set but after a Tars defensive
miscue, the 'Fish pulled away and never looked back.
Rollins bounced back in the second set winning 25-23. The frame
included 11 ties and eight lead changes but it was the Tars who
came out on top after the final tie at the 22-all mark on a kill by
Collyn
Welsch. Welsch recorded eight of her 20 kills in the second
set.
The Tars were unable to carry over their momentum into the third
set as they dropped a 25-16 decision. Rollins was held to a .000
hitting percentage, recording only eight kills in the set.
In the fourth set, the Tars battled it out as the frame included
12 ties and two lead changes. A block by Aroon
Duncanson and Jessica
Wilson evened the score at 24-all but a kill by Elly Raush and
a Tars attack error handed the No. 19 Sailfish the match win,
26-24.
Three 'Fish paced the team in double-figure kills with lone
senior Christina Alessi notching a team-best 19 kills. Faith Rohn
added 15 kills and Elly Raush 11.
Rollins will hit the road for their final conference series of
the regular season as they head to Boca Raton, Fla. to face Lynn on
