TAMPA, Fla. (January 5, 2013) - Behind Kyle McClanahan's career game, Rollins knocked off
22nd-ranked Tampa 72-66 Saturday, giving Tom Klusman career win No. 599.
The Tars improve to 9-2 on the season and stay perfect at 2-0 in
Sunshine State Conference play. The loss knocks the Spartans from
the ranks of the unbeaten as they fall to 12-1, 0-1 SSC.
McClanahan poured in a career-best 26 points, shooting 8-for-11
from the field and 10-of-12 from the free throw line. The Winter
Park native also added five rebounds and four assists in 38 minutes
of action.
Dave Diakite turned in another solid night, netting
14 points and picking up three steals.
Anthony Griffis led the Spartans with 18 points while Da'Marko
Foster chipped in 16 points and seven rebounds.
After shooting just 44 percent (11-25) in the first half,
Rollins went 14-for-20 (70 percent) in the second to end the game
56 percent from the field. Tampa shot 47 percent (24-51). The Tars
went the charity stripe often and made the most of it, hitting
18-of-27. UT made just seven trips, hitting three. Rollins also
earned a slight rebounding edge, 28-27.
Now in his 33rd year as the head coach of his alma
mater, Klusman will look to become just the 15th coach
in Division II history to reach 600 victories. Among active
coaches, just four others have eclipsed 600 wins.
Rollins will look to give Klusman his milestone win on
Wednesday, Jan. 9 at Florida Tech. Tip off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
in Melbourne. Fans can catch all the action live on the Tars Sports
Network at RollinsSports.com.
