DENVER, Colo. (September 02, 2012) - Current
Colorado Rockies General Manager, Dan O'Dowd, welcomed the Rollins
women's soccer team to Coors Field Sunday afternoon.
Before the team took in a Rockies game, O'Dowd, a graduate of
Rollins, invited the team to join him in the front offices and once
piled into the executive boardroom, the girls listened intently as
the once Sporting News' Executive of the Year spoke about things
ranging from how he first started in professional baseball to the
importance of winning the right way.
He went on to challenge the girls to go after something that
"...you have an extreme passion for. Don't do it because your
parents want you to, don't do it for the money, do it because you
have an intense passion for it."
He later explained the importance of relationships in sports. He
recalled that they the most significant relationships that he
formed in his life came when he was a member of the Tars baseball
team.
O'Dowd played for Tars legend Boyd Coffee while at Rollins.
Before his passing, Coffee once described Dan as "...a
perfectionist. He demands a lot and has high expectations. He loves
for you to confront him with your own ideas, but you had better
have good answers to his questions. He's a very astute baseball man
whom I believe is already one of the best general managers in
baseball. I'm very proud of him."
The Tars will be back in action Monday, Sept. 3 at Regis with
kickoff set for 1 pm. Fans can follow the action live on the Tars
Sports Network at RollinsSports.com, which includes live audio and
stats. Android users can listen live on the Rollins Sports app - an
Apple version will be released soon. All mobile users can access
live stats at TarsStats.com.
