FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (September 28, 2012) - The
Rollins volleyball team notched their first Sunshine State
Conference win of the season with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 26-24)
victory over the Nova Southeastern Sharks at the NSU Arena.
The Tars now improve to 7-7 on the season and 1-2 in the SSC,
while Nova Southeastern drops to 3-12 overall and 0-2 in conference
play.
Rollins was led by junior Camille
Indest as she registered a game-high 14 kills for a .478
hitting percentage, to go along with three blocks and three digs.
Kelly
Merideth added seven kills with eight digs, four assists and
one block.
In the opening frame, the Tars were off to a great start as they
hit .438 and held the Sharks to a .171 hitting percentage. Indest
recorded six of her 14 kills in the first set, while hitting a
.667.
The Tars led throughout the whole set but had the pressure put
on them at the 12-11 mark as the Sharks rattled off three straight
points to close the gap. Rollins responded with a 4-0 run to
extend their lead to 16-11 and ended the set scoring three straight
points.
Rollins was able to take the 2-0 lead after the second set as
they secured a 25-15 win. The Tars led by as many as 10 on
multiple occasions. The Tars struggled in the third set as the
frame saw 14 ties and six lead changes.
Nova Southeastern recorded the final tie at 24-all on a kill by
Samantha High. A kill by Indest gave the Tars the one-point lead
while an attack error by the Sharks handed the Tars the 26-24 and
match.
Caitlin Donahue led the Sharks with eight kills while Jordan
Pappas added 21 assists.
Rollins will head down the road as they face the Barry
Buccaneers on Saturday, Sept. 29. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
