SAINT LEO, Fla. (April 29, 2012) - After dropping the opening game of the conference series against Saint Leo, Rollins bounced back to win the series as they won the first game of Sunday's doubleheader 5-4 and took the rubber match 2-1 at Southard Stadium on the Lions' senior day.

Southpaw Brett Mueller pitched 6.2 innings to earn his sixth win of the season. He struck out three and allowed three runs, all of which were unearned. After giving up one run in the opening frame, Mueller kept the Saint Leo Lions scoreless through his time on the mound.

Rollins didn't jump on the board until the fourth inning putting up a four-spot to take a 4-1 lead. SLU starter Rick Teasley gave up the four runs on five hits. Teasley was saddled with the loss in 4.0 innings of work scattering nine hits and striking out four.

Nick Adams and Anthony Figliolia led off the fourth inning on back-to-back hits before Brian Lattanzi lined out to the shortstop for the first out. Adams scored the first run for the Tars on a RBI single by Zach Persky. Figliolia then scored the following run on a RBI double from Kevin Mager. Persky and Mager then scored the following two runs on a bases clearing double from Sean Reilly.

The Tars tacked on another run in the top of the seventh as Josh Band came home on a RBI single from Adams. Saint Leo then chipped away at the Tars' lead in their home half of the inning scoring a pair of runs, 5-3.

Saint Leo made it a ballgame in the bottom of the eighth as they plated one run to make the score 5-4. Rollins was able to shutout the Lions in the bottom of the ninth as the Tars forced Saint Leo's first two batters to fly out and Zach Miller to pop up to short.

Adams led all hitters as he was a perfect 5-of-5 at the plate and was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle with a double and a triple, along with one run scored and a RBI. Figliolia, Mager, Reilly and Band each added two hits.

The Tars outhit their opponent 15-7 but committed five defensive miscues to the Lions' one.

Game two of the doubleheader was a pitcher's duel through the seven inning affair as both teams went scoreless through six. In the top of the seventh, Hunter Mayfield crushed a ball over the left-center fence for a two-run home run.

Saint Leo was able to cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the seventh as Anthony Santa hit a home run to left center but would be the only run to cross the plate by the Lions as Rollins improves to 27-17 overall and 8-10 in the SSC.

Hunter Mayfield was the only Tars to notch multiple hits as he went 2-for-3 with a home run, one run scored and two RBI. Nick Adams and Sean Reilly had the other two hits for Rollins.

Mike Herrmann picked up the win for the Tars going 6.2 innings, striking out one and allowing no walks and one earned run. His counterpart, Aaron Brandt went the complete seven innings and was charged with the loss. He fanned a game-high five and walked one, allowing two runs.

Rollins will return to their home field as they host their final home series of the season against the Florida Southern Moccasins on May 4. First pitch is at 6 p.m. The Florida Southern series will also include Senior Day as Rollins honors 12 seniors for all their efforts towards the Rollins baseball program.
