BANNER ELK, N.C. (March 7, 2012) - The Rollins
men's lacrosse team scored their first road victory, Wednesday
afternoon, with a 14-13 win against Lees-McRae in overtime. Rollins
is now 2-6 after the victory and has gained some momentum heading
into their home game against Pfeiffer on Monday.
Rollins started out strong against Lees McRae after establishing
a 3-2 after the first 15 minutes. Will
Diamond and Jack
Dever both fueled the attack early collecting goals in the
first period along with Billy
Pray. Dever and Diamond also combined to score six more goals
to lead the offense.
Chris
Ross also made a huge contribution with two goals of his own
and was joined by James
Libutti, Connor
Galvin and Stephen
DeFlumeri. Diamond, Libutti and DeFlumeri also facilitated the
offense by collecting two helpers apiece.
The Tars seized control of the game in the second period with
the blue and gold outscoring Lees McRae 5-3 in the period. Coming
out of the break the Bobcats mounted a serious push and took the
lead with a six goal outburst with Rollins only managing two goals
in that span.
The fourth period proved to be decisive as the Tars outscored
the Bobcats by one to force overtime. Rollins entered the extra
frame with experience to draw on. The Tars made quick work in the
extra period with Diamond notching the game winning tally just a
minute and a half in. Rollins improved their overtime record this
season with a 1-1 record.
Lees McRae did most of their damage courtesy of Danny Ives, who
tallied seven goals, while Derin Vacca collected four assists on
the afternoon.
The Tars will return home to face Pfiefer on Monday, March 12 at
4 p.m. at Baker Family Stadium.
