WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 6, 2012) - For the
second time this season, Malte Christesen won a third and match-deciding set
as eighth-ranked Rollins beat fourth-ranked Concordia (N.Y.) 5-4
Tuesday.
The big victory moves Rollins to 5-4 on the season while
dropping the Clippers to 2-3.
The Tars took a 2-1 lead in doubles play behind a win in the No
2. flight. Sebastian Hafner and Constintin Strudza fought off
numerous match-points against Daniele Piludu and Geza Bazula to win
9-8(7).
Rollins and Concordia split the other two matches with Luca
Jovita and Jason Alabaster teaming to down Bena Majauskas and
Tomasz Olfans 8-6 in the No. 1 match for Rollins and Andreas
Lindell and David Tisserand winning 8-0 over Jeff Morris and Christesen at No. 3 for the
Clippers.
Top-ranked Jovita cruised to a win at No. 1 singles, downing
Majauskas 6-2, 6-1. I the No. 2 match 11th-ranked Jovita
scored an upset over fourth-ranked Piludu 6-2, 6-1. In the fall,
Piludu finished runner-up to Jovita in the ITA Division II National
Championship.
Concordia went on to score points in the four, five and six
singles matches.
Christesen faced Lindell at No. 2 singles and won the first set
6-4, but dropped the second 4-6. With the entire match on the line,
he scored a 6-3 win in the deciding set to give Rollins the
victory.
Rollins will be back in action on Thursday, March 8 at 2 p.m.
against Wayne State.
