WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 8, 2012) -
Eighth-ranked Rollins earned its first shutout of the season,
beating Wayne State (Mich.) 9-0 on Thursday afternoon.
The Tars improve to 6-4 on the year with the win.
Rollins cruised in the top-two doubles flights with Lucas Jovita
and Jason Alabaster teaming to beat Melvin Joseph and Janson Chen
8-1 in the top spot. Jeff Morris and Ari Davis downed Michael
FitzGerald and Matt Fisher 8-2 at No. 2 while Malte Christesen and
Constantin Sturdza won 8-6 over Oscar Gammarra and Thomas Ducret at
No. 3.
The Tars were dominate in singles, winning all bug one match in
straight sets.
Top-ranked Jovita took care of Ducret 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 1
match while 11th-ranked Morris won 6-4, 6-2 over
FitzGerald at No. 2.
Chistesen was a 6-2, 6-0 winner past Joseph n the No. 3 match
and Davis took Chen 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4. Benardo Barroso scorced a
win over Gammarra 6-7(2), 2-3, ret in the No. 5 match with Andrew
Mulick defeating Groszek 1-6, 6-1, 10-8 at No. 3.
Rollins will next host NAIA powerhouse Auburn-Montgomery on
Tuesday, March 13.
