WINTER PAR, Fla. (March 15, 2012) - In their
second match-up of the season against the Wayne State Warriors, the
Rollins baseball team went home the victors with an 8-1 victory
Thursday night at Alfond Stadium.
Rollins was led by Zach
Persky, Sean
Reilly, Josh
Band and Boston
Langley at the plate as each registered two hits off the
Warriors. Persky added three RBI and a triple while Reilly scored
a run and drew a walk. Band scored a pair of runs and also
recorded a triple. Langley drove in three runs and scored one of
his own.
The Tars (16-6) had two huge innings on the night putting up a
five-spot in the second inning. Rollins went through their entire
order in the bottom of the second as Wayne State starter Jeff
Sorenson struggled to end the inning. Sorensen was relieved after
all five runs were scored and was charged with the loss going 1.2
innings for the Warriors.
In the bottom of the second, Rollins loaded the bases on a ball
through the left side by Greg
Smith. Langley then laced another ball through the left side
to drive in Reilly and Band for the Tars' first two runs. A Nick
Adams walk would load the bases once again. Sorenson then
threw four balls to Anthony
Figliolia to walk in a run. An error by the Warriors catcher
allowed Langley to score as the final run of the inning came on the
sacrifice fly by Persky.
In the top of the third, Wayne State (8-4) managed to push a run
across on a straight shot up the middle by third baseman Alex
Trojan.
The Tars scored their final three runs in the sixth. Band led
off the inning with a triple to right center and scored on a
Langley RBI single. Figliolia and Adams scored the last two runs
of the inning on a bases-clearing triple by Persky.
Mike
Herrmann (2-1) earned the win in 5.2 innings of work. The
right-hander struck out three and allowed three walks. He gave up
one earned run and scattered six hits.
Rollins will be back in action Friday, March 16 as they host the
C.W. Post Pioneers. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Fans can follow
