WINTER PAR, Fla. (March 9, 2012) - After an
overpowering victory over Wayne State the night before, the Tars
returned to Alfond Stadium early the next day and took down the
Indianapolis Greyhounds 5-2 Friday afternoon.
Led by a strong pitching performance from Taylor
Smith who earned his third win of the season went seven innings
on the mound and struck out six batters. He gave up three walks
and allowed one run on four hits. His counterpart, Donovan Drake,
was charged with the loss in six innings of work. He fanned a
game-high nine, allowing no walks, but gave up four runs on seven
hits.
Rollins (13-5) got off to a slow starting scoring a lone run in
the second frame. Kevin
Mager scored the first run of the game on a Sean
Reilly RBI double after reaching base on a double to left
center and then advancing to third on a passed ball.
Indianapolis evened the score in the top of the fourth, but the
Tars responded in the following two innings with a run in the fifth
and another two in the sixth. Josh
Band crushed a ball over the right field wall in the fifth, his
first of the season, to put Rollins up 2-1. In the sixth, Mager
plated Zach
Persky from second and was then driven in by Reilly on a RBI
single.
The Greyhounds (2-1) cut the deficit in half in the top of the
eighth scoring a lone run. Rollins tacked on a final run in the
home half to extend their lead to 5-2 for the final score. The
Tars outhit their opponent 9-5 and were error-free while the Indy
Greyhounds committed two errors on the day.
Persky and Reilly each had two hits while Persky added a pair of
doubles and runs scored and Reilly two RBIs and a double.
