BELMONT, N.C. (February, 18 2012)- The
eighth-ranked Rollins women's lacrosse team collected a challenging
and convincing first road victory over Belmont Abbey, Saturday
afternoon, 18-6. Rollins improves to 2-0 on the season and will
look to extend their winning streak against Catawba on Sunday.
Nine different Tars found the back of the net to pace the
offense with Erica
Pagliarulo collecting four tallies on the afternoon. Also
collecting multi-goal efforts were Cat
Kelley and Sarah
Ann Showell with three goals apiece, while Ginevra
Czech and Sophie
Townsend tallied two goals each.
The early stages of the game the Crusaders were able to keep it
close, coming within one goal of tying the game, but that seemed to
ignite the Tars offense, which ended the first half on a 7-1
scoring streak. Elyse di Lisle was strong for the Tars between the
pipes, collecting 10 saves and only allowing six goals to the
potent Crusader offense.
Rollins played stingy defense, not allowing Belmont Abbey to
establish any sort of rhythm or even to get into their offense. The
Crusaders relied on quick transition strikes to create their
chances, but could not generate enough of those as the they were
stymied by the Tars defense.
Heading into the break the Tars held a 10-4 advantage and looked
to press even further heading into the second half. Both teams went
back and forth with nobody asserting their presence until the Tars
offense got back on track. The Tars clamped down and put the
finishing touches on the victory by scoring eight goals in the
second half, while limiting the Crusaders to two tallies.
Rollins will be back in action, Sunday at noon against Catawba
in their last game of the road trip. Fans check RollinsSports.com
