GAFFNEY, S.C. (February 12, 2012) - In the
final game of the opening weekend on the road, Rollins fell to
third-ranked Limestone, 22-3, Sunday afternoon. The Tars fall to
0-2 after hitting the road against tough region competition.
The trio of Stephen DeFlumeri, Connor Galvin and Chris Ross netted one goal apiece
with DeFlumeri picking up an assist with Chuck Magid. The offense was never able to get on
track with the Tars being held off the scoreboard in the second
period, while the Saints tacked on four goals to take a 10-1 lead
at halftime.
Rollins would use three goalkeepers to try and slow the attack
from Limestone down, but the Saints pressed on, outscoring the Tars
12-2 in the second half. Andrew Sheerin, Ethan Enriquez and Ian Flick combined to tally 12 saves.
Peter Harvey had a game-high 12 faceoff wins
and helped the Tars draw even with the Saints with 15 faceoff wins
apiece. The Tars also held the advantage over the Saints in
extra-man opportunities with the Tars converting on once chance,
something Limestone struggled with.
Limestone held a significant advantage on the shot chart with 59
attempts at the cage, while forcing the Tars into 31 turnovers to
help seal the victory. Riley Loewen helped pace the Saints offense
with six goals, while Shayne Jackson tallied eight assists to help
fuel the attack
Rollins will take a break before hitting the road again to play
Florida Southern on February 22nd.
