WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 2, 2012) - The
Rollins volleyball team suffered a 3-1 (22-5, 25-23, 25-27, 20-25)
loss to the Barry Buccaneers at Warden Arena Friday night. The
Tars now fall to 14-13 overall and 5-6 in the SSC, while Barry
improves to 13-11 and 5-6 in conference play.
Kelly
Merideth led the Tars offense with 13 kills while Megan
Hodges added 12 and Camille
Indest 11. Merideth was two digs shy of a double-double with
eight while Indest added four blocks.
Rollins was down early in the match as they dropped the first
set 25-22. The Tars were within reach of the Buccaneers at the
24-22 mark on a kill from Merideth but Barry closed out the set on
a kill from Ashley Carrero.
The Tars bounced back in the second set, winning 25-23. Jessica
Wilson led the team with five kills in the frame, to go along
with four kills each from Jill
Lau and Hodges. Wilson finished with nine kills on the night
with 13 digs.
In the third set, Rollins fought tooth and nail as a serving
error handed the Tars a 25-all tie. A Barry kill from Laine
Cielena gave the Buccaneers a one-point advantage while another
kill from Jayla Trombley gave the Bucs the win.
Rollins was unable to hold onto their lead in the final set as
the frame saw seven ties and one lead change. The final tie of the
set came at the 13-all tie as the Bucs committed a serving error.
Barry was able to regain the lead on a kill from Cielena, which
opened up a 9-2 run for the Bucs and a 22-15 lead. Barry took the
set 25-20.
Ashley Carrero led the Bucs with 17 kills and nine digswhile
Cielena added 13 kills and three blocks.
The Tars will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 3 as they host
the Nova Southeastern Sharks on Senior Day. Match time is set for
