Rollins will look to make it two wins heading into the
Thanksgiving holiday, facing Puerto Rico Rio Piedras in a Wednesday
matinee.
The Tars (1-1) are coming off a 71-57 victory over Puerto Rico
Bayamon on Monday night. Five players reached double figures, led
by a career-high 18 points from Mitch Woods. The junior transfer
was 7-of-9 from the field and hit all four 3-point attempts. Kyle
McClanahan was 4-of-5 shooting, including two 3-pointers, to put up
11 points while Brett Chance also hit a pair from long range and
netted 11. Jeff Dirkin and Dave Diakite each recorded 10 points
with Dirkin also pulling down seven rebounds.
Rollins rebounded from a tough shooting night in its season opening
loss to Warner, hitting 50 percent from the field and 56 percent
from 3-point range.
Diaktie is the Tars leading scorer on the season, averaging 11.5
points a night. Woods added 10.5 a game while Chance and McClanahan
each add 10 a game. Dirkin is the chairman of the boards with seven
rebounds a game and Diakite is getting five a night. McClanahan has
emerged as one of the top point guards in the SSC, handing out nine
assists to just three turnovers, while also totaling seven
steals.
The Gallitos are 1-2 on the season, coming off a 63-56 loss at
Flagler Monday evening. Angel Acevedo led the way with 19 points
and five rebounds. Gabriel Angiero chipped in 10 points. Rio
Piedras shot 37 percent from the floor and were just 7-of-22 from
3-point range. They were outrebounded by the Saints 46-31 and
committed 19 turnovers.
UPRRP also faced Division II teams St. Thomas Aquinas College and
Belmont Abbey this season. They beat St. Thomas 74-62 to start the
year and fell to BAC 74-66.
Hector Maldonado is averaging 19.3 points a game to lead the
Gallitos while Acevedo is putting up 17.7.
Rollins will take the next seven-days off before traveling to Palm
Beach Atlantic on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. They then return
home to open up Sunshine State Conference play at home against
Eckerd on December 1.
