TAMPA, Fla. (October 26, 2012) - The Rollins volleyball team suffered a straight-sets (21-25, 22-25, 14-25) loss to the No. 6 Tampa Spartans to open up the second half of the Sunshine State Conference schedule.

The Tars now fall to 14-11 overall and 5-4 in league play while Tampa improves to 21-3 and a perfect 10-0 in conference.

The Tars battled through the opening frame keeping a close score with the sixth-ranked Spartans. The score tied on four occasions with the final coming at 15-all on a kill from Jill Lau. The Spartans then went on a 4-0 run to force a Rollins timeout. The Tars were unable to recover from the deficit and fell 25-21 in the first.

Rollins made a small comeback in the second set as they held a short-lived lead early on. A kill by Camille Indest gave the Tars a lead but the Spartans regained it on a Jackie Neff kill. Rollins was able to come as close as one at the 23-22 mark on a Spartan error but unable to build momentum from it, falling 25-22.

In the final set, the score tied five times favoring the Spartans each time. UT finally pulled away after a 6-all tie by the Tars and closed out the frame with a 25-14 win.

Rollins was led by Megan Hodges as she registered 14 kills while hitting at a .345 clip. Indest added nine kills and two blocks. April Jackson added 31 assists to the Tars offense while Christina Carracino tallied 19 digs.

The Tars will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 27 as they take on the Eckerd Tritons at 4 p.m. Fans can catch all the action live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
