AT A GLANCE - Coming off a loss, but still in
the Sunshine State Conference's driver's seat, Rollins returns home
Wednesday to face Nova Southeastern at Warden Arena. The Tars have
won five of their last seven coming into the game, but are coming
off a tough 84-70 loss at Florida Tech on Saturday. Rollins was up
one at the half, but Tech netted 52 in the second to run away with
the win. Dave Diakite tallied 20 points and seven rebounds for the
Tars. Rollins has the SSC's seventh-ranked offense, putting up 69.8
points a game. The defense continues to be stout and ranks fourth
in the conference, surrendering just 66.2 points a game, and leads
in field goal percentage defense as opponents shoot just 41 percent
a game. The Tars are 8-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference playing
at the Alfond Sports Center this season. The only SSC loss was an
overtime thriller to Eckerd earlier in January...Nova Southeastern
has won four of its last five and is 9-7 overall and 4-3 in
conference play. The Sharks are coming off a 67-53 win over Saint
Leo on Saturday that saw Iran Hollis go 10-of-12 from the field and
net 23 points. NSU is scoring a SSC sixth-best 72.7 points and
allowing 68.1, ranking fifth in the conference. They are the top
shooting team in the SSC, hitting 50 percent from the field and 73
percent from the free throw line. The Sharks are 2-3 on the road
this season, including a 1-1 mark in the conference.
THE STARS - Myk Brown leads Rollins with 12.6
points a game while Dave Diakite and Jeremy Sharpe are each getting
11 a night. Chris Malcolm adds 10.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.5
blocks a game...Robert Huntington scores 12.4 points a night to
lead the Sharks. Teddy Tassy nets 11.4 points and is seventh in the
nation with a .923 shooting percentage. Ian Hollis adds 10.4 points
a game.
THE COACHES - Tom Klusman (Rollins '76), now in
his 32nd year at the helm of his alma mater, ranks fifth among
active Division II coaches and ranks 18th all-time with a record of
586-322... Gary Tuell (Louisville '73) is in his eighth season
leading the Sharks and has a career record of 98-113 at NSU.
THE SERIES - Rollins leads the all-time series
against Nova Southeastern 25-5 and is on a five-game winning streak
against the Sharks. In the last meeting, the Tars eked out a 62-61
victory in Fort Lauderdale. Nick Wolf led the Tars with 21 points
and 11 rebounds while Alex Gynes poured in 15 for NSU.
