SAVANNAH, Ga. (September 16, 2011) - The No. 24 Rollins volleyball team suffered a straight set loss (18-25, 26-28, 23-25) to the Flagler Saints in Friday's night cap of the 2011 Pirate South/Southeast Challenge.

The loss set back the Tars to 6-5 on the season, while the Flagler Saints improved to 7-2. The straight set loss was the first sweep the Tars have endured this season.

Sophomore Megan Hodges collected 19 kills and was a dig shy of a double-double with nine digs, to go along with one block and a pair of service aces. Collyn Welsch chipped in with seven kills and 13 digs, while Kiana Parks picked up her first double-double of the season with 25 assists and 10 digs.

After picking up a win earlier in the day, the Tars were a bit sluggish out of the gates dropping the first set 25-18. In game two, the 24th-ranked Tars were a bit more alert as the set saw 13 ties and four lead changes. Collyn Welsch kept the Tars alive after tying the score at 25-all and then giving the team a one-point edge on a kill. The Saints were able to capitalize on some Tars defensive miscues to take game two, 28-26.

Down by two games, Rollins remained competitive with Flagler throughout the set as the set saw another 20 ties and eight lead changes. The Tars led by no more than two points throughout and struggled to extend their lead. On a kill by Jill Lau, Rollins managed to hold a 22-21 lead over the Saints, but like it roll by as the Saints look the final set 25-23.

Flagler outhit the Tars .273-.197 and had four Saints tally double-digit kills with Emilee Taylor leading with 12. Sophie Meyer added 11 kills, while Rachel Stacy and Crystal Niederriter each recorded 10 apiece.

Rollins will wrap up the 2011 Pirate South/Southeast Challenge Saturday as they take on USC-Aiken at 11 a.m., followed by a 1 p.m. matchup against the No. 23 Armstrong Atlantic Pirates. Fans can follow all the live action on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
