WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 11, 2011) - The
20th-ranked Rollins women's soccer team scored early and
often Sunday, running away with an 8-0 win over Florida
Memorial.
The Tars (3-0-1) have yet to allow a goal on the season.
Emma Jones tallied a pair of scores while Allie Holly, Ali Schrader, Laura Piedrahita, Andrea Jonsson, Kelsey Boone and Maddie Ginder recorded one goal apiece.
Michelle Dillingham earned the shutout, stopping
three shots. Her counterpart Natalia Gomez totaled 18 saves as the
Tars outshot the Lions 35-5 on the day.
Holly got Rollins on the board in the fourth minute off a pass
from Ashley Waplinger. Schrader made it a two-goal spread
in the 10th minute as Boone laid a cross in the box for
the header. Just two minutes later, Jones scored her first on a
hard strike with Waplinger again earning the assist.
In the 19th minute, Piedrahita scored on an
unassisted free kick near the top of the box to make the score 4-0.
Courtney Redding lofted a corner kick into the box in the 2rd
minute and found Andrea Jonsson for the score. Boone added another
goal before the half as Morgan Foster found Ginder streaking down
the right side in open space. She then sent a strike into the box
where Boone beat the keeper.
Jones scored her second of the day in the 47th minute
with Schrader setting up the play. In the 66th minute,
Ginder took advantage of a failed clearance by the Lions and found
the back of the net to make the score 8-0.
The game was then called in the 71st minute when
lightning was detected in the area.
Rollins will be on the road Wednesday, Sept. 14 at Northwood.
