HICKORY, N.C. (May 4, 2011) - With a
career-high seven points from junior Cat
Kelley, the ninth-ranked Rollins women's lacrosse team defeated
the Lenoir-Rhyne University 22-7 on Wednesday afternoon in Hickory,
N.C. Kelley's four goal, three assist afternoon helped the Tars
advance to 12-4 on the season, matching a program best for wins in
a season. The Bears drop to an overall mark of 6-10.
A total of 10 Tars put goals on the scoreboard, with eight of
their 22 goals assisted. Marissa
Giannerini posted six points on the day with three goals and
three assists, while Katy
Tyszko netted a hat trick and tacked on one assist. Anna
Townsend had a big day, scoring three goals of her own, while
Caroline
Lamere, Kelly
Thayer, and Sarah
Ann Showell each placed two shots between the pipes.
The Bears were led by Kelsey Anderson and Stevie Dellinger, who
scored two goals apiece. Rachel Hall, Sarah Minick, and Hayley
Beaty each tallied one. All of Lenoir-Rhyne's goals were scored
unassisted.
Lenoir-Rhyne notched the first goal of the game after both teams
got off to a slow start, but the Tars scored 12 straight to pull
ahead to a 12-1 lead.
The Tars held onto a 14-4 advantage at the break thanks to first
half hat tricks from Anna
Townsend and Giannerini. Kelley led the team after the first
stanza in overall points with two goals and two assists for a four
point first half.
Rollins continued to sail through the second half, outscoring
their opponent 8-3, with five of their eight goals coming off of
assists. The Tars led the shot cound 32-15, and won the ground
ball battle 24-23. Rollins also stifled their opponent off the
draw, winning 22-of-31, and were successful on 15-of-16 clear
attempts.
After opening the contest between the pipes, goalie Elyse
De Lisle set aside three shots while allowing a total of four.
Rachael
Kokomoor finished the game in cage, making a total of two saves
throughout the second half and allowing three shots on frame to hit
the back of the net.
On the opposite end of the field, Amanda Cotto made a total of
three saves as she faced 32 shots and 25 shots on cage.
The Tars return to action on Saturday, May 7, when they take on
south region rival and third-ranked Limestone. Game time against
