WINGATE, N.C. (April 11, 2011) - Long pole
defender Nick Scannapieco earned his second-straight nod as an
All-Deep South Conference selection, earning Second Team honors,
league officials announced Monday. Also making the 2011 All-DSC
squad as Honorable Mention selections were Eric Schmit and Austin
Ricci. Schmit picks up his second-consecutive DSC Honorable
Mention award, but the selection marks the first All-Conference
award for Ricci.
Scannapieco earns his Second Team position after a solid
sophomore campaign. The Lower Gwynedd, Pa. native has played and
started in all 12 games for the Tars this season, and currently
leads the team in caused turnovers with 21. Scannapieco has also
racked up 31 ground balls on the season, and has added his first
career goal in the Tars' final game of the regular season at
Pfeiffer.
Schmit gets named as an Honorable Mention selection once again
after posting seven goals and 14 assists in his final season with
the Tars. Schmit was key for Rollins on faceoffs this season,
earning a success rate of 63 percent as he won 98-of-155 attempts.
The Deephaven, Minn. native has played in all 12 games, starting
11, and has added 38 ground balls and three caused turnovers to his
21 point total so far this season.
Ricci gets his first All-Conference nod after exploding in the
second half the season to become the Tars' leader in goals scored.
The local product from Winter Park, Fla. has posted 24 goals and
one assist so far this season, making him the Tars' single season
record holder in number of goals scored. He is just two points
away from setting a new program record in total number of points
tallied in one season. Ricci has also tacked on 13 ground balls and
three caused turnovers for the Tars in his junior campaign.
This year's Deep South Conference Player of the year was awarded
to Mars Hill's Tyler Farmer. Saint Leo's Matt Obermeyer has been
named the league's Freshman of the Year, while Florida Southern's
Marty Ward and Lenoir-Rhyne's Greg Paradine earn co-Coach of the
Year Honors.
The Tars return to action on Tuesday, April 12, when they travel
to DSC south region foe Saint Leo University in the Quarterfinal
